Stolen MD Fire Vehicle Recovered after Social Media Blitz

Aug. 11, 2023
Crews from Ritchie Volunteer Fire Department found the truck missing Thursday morning.

Firefighters at Ritchie Volunteer Fire Department in Capitol Heights noticed one of the pick-up trucks missing Thursday morning.

When calls to members failed to determine its location, they posted a description of the Chevrolet Silverado on social media and notified police.

It was that post that eventually led to the recovery about five miles away, WTTG reported.

A Capitol Heights resident on a walk in a neighborhood recognized the stolen vehicle Ritchie Volunteer Fire Department markings, after seeing it in a social media post from Prince George’s County Fire and EMS.

Prince George's County Police are investigating and are checking to determine if the theft was caught on security cameras.

"We're thankful that our social media post reached about 30,000 people in about a 30-minute to an hour period," Prince George's County Fire Rescue Deputy Chief  Alan Doubleday said.
